Primary Segmental Volvulus Mimicking Ileal Atresia
Neonatal intestinal volvulus in the absence of malrotation is a rare occurrence and rarer still is the intestinal volvulus in absence of any other predisposing factors. Primary segmental volvulus in neonates is very rare entity, which can have catastrophic outcome if not intervened at appropriate time. We report two such cases, which were preoperatively diagnosed as ileal atresia and intraopera...
متن کاملPrimary segmental volvulus of the ileum mimicking meconium plug syndrome
Primary segmental volvulus (PSV) of the ileum in neonate occurs rarely but shows an aggressive clinical course. Thus, early diagnosis is important to prevent necrosis and perforation of the intestine. We report a case of PSV of the ileum in a 2-day-old female neonate whose clinical features and radiologic findings appeared to be meconium plug syndrome.

Atresia of the distal ileum concurrent with ileocaecal valve agenesis is one of the rare types of intestinal atresia with very few reports in the literature. We herein present a case of type II distal ileal atresia, ileocaecal valve agenesis and volvulus of the ileum and the terminal jejunum with a history of depression, anorexia and failure to pass meconium. On necropsy, volvulus of the ileum ...

متن کاملIntrauterine Intussusception Causing Ileal Atresia
Intrauterine intussusception (IUI) is the one of the rarest recognized causes of jejuno-ileal atresia (JIA). We report on a 15-day old full-term neonate presenting with features of intestinal obstruction, wherein on exploration, a visible ileo-ileal intussusception resulting in ileal atresia was found. The relevant literature has been reviewed.
